Abood Abu Tair
Jabal al-Furaydis
My village, Umm Tuba, is a Palestinian village located on the outskirts of southern Jerusalem, built on the ruins of a Roman-era archaeological site. The water wells, caves, and columns carved into the rocks were an integral part of my childhood and life. I began capturing a series of photographs from the roof of my house, which overlooks Herodium, locally known as Jabal al-Furaydis, standing out among the barren hills of Hebron with its artificial conical structure. From the roof of my house, I see an archaeological site that reveals to me the secrets of the past and present.
In an attempt to create alternative spaces, and using both a digital and an analog camera, I documented the floor, concrete walls, remnants of the building, objects I found on it, and the sky. My work raises ideas about documenting time and considering the possibility that our present may also one day become archaeological remnants.
