Rabab Hijazi

After studying sociology and anthropology combined with creative art, I discovered that the most effective way to convey a certain message is through art. My work tells the story of my family's uprooting from Ein Hod. What makes this story unique is the love that emerged between my grandfather and grandmother. My grandfather Fawzi was born in the village of Ein Hud, overlooking the Bay of Haifa. He was 12 years old when the expulsion in 1948 occurred. Ten years later, my grandfather, Fauzi, met my grandmother, Jihad, and they fell in love. They got married and had a child, Fuad. A few months after Fuad was born, the family went back to Ein hod after they were promised to return, but they were kicked out every time they returned until there was this one time when an army official told my grandfather that he "will kill him if he doesn't move." After the end of the military dictatorship that lasted about 19 years, my grandfather went back to his village as a construction worker and not a landowner. Every time I remember my grandfather Fawzi, I remember his many attempts to return to his house overlooking the Bay of Haifa and his land on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea
