The Path of Memories

The project addresses cities that I am connected to: Jerusalem, Nablus, and the road between them. My mother is from Jerusalem, my father is from Nablus, and I feel like a point of intersection between them. I have many memories and stories from this road, where my siblings, my father, and I used to play a game called "Where are we?" and we used to follow different landmarks to recognize the village or place we were in. I wanted my project to embody my memories from this road; the memories I chose to immerse myself in are the ones I remember most from my childhood because of the emotions that accompanied them; starting with disappointment and ending with feelings of distress and weakness. The project contains several elements: two glass jars, an old abandoned house, a maze installation, and a sound work. Each element is displayed within a colored glass bubble, so that when you press the bubble, it resembles the weight of memories and the pressure it exerts on consciousness, which symbolizes children with happiness and freedom, yet the pressure prevents them from flying. Work size: 5 elements, 30x28. Techniques and materials: glass blowing and casting. Photography: Rawan Julani
