Garden of Memories

The project consists of sculptures in the shape of land pieces or islands. One of my dearest childhood memories is hiding in my grandfather's garden while drinking tea, escaping from reality and the overwhelming chaos in the world. My grandfather's garden was my utopian place, a world of my own, where there was no tension or worry, nothing but tranquility, as I held a cup of warm tea and heard nothing except the chirping of birds and the church bells. I wanted to convey these feelings to the islands I created; they represent the inner world of my childhood self. I built the islands by hand, using a combination of techniques such as surfacing, throwing, scraping, and carving from a clay block. Each island was made using different techniques and methods to achieve the exact shape I wanted. I painted the islands using engobe. I started by coloring them with a base color, then added layers of stripes in different colors. Techniques and materials: White clay + Engobe colors.
