Maria Abboud
As an artist, I find inspiration and motivation in the challenging reality of the Arab citizens in Israel. My art seeks to uncover and criticize this complex reality: injustice, poverty, and social tradition and hardships.
I mainly work with video and stills. The camera helps me connect my inner world with the outer reality and gives me a sense of wholeness and harmony. I also work with digital paintings with which I create worlds that exist within me.
My current work deals with introspection and self-reflection and explores the sensitive places in life. In the fairy tale "Sabrime in the bubble," I connect the past with the present while observing painful events and harsh reality, interwoven with optimism and hope for a better future. I believe that to be able to look outside at the complexity that exists in the world in a correct and healthy way, I first need to look inside myself, especially into the most painful places, and this is one of the biggest challenges I have encountered.
