Aseel Jamama’a
Those Who Wait
Video installation
Aseel was born in the village of Yafa and grew up surrounded by struggling construction workers.
As she grew up, Aseel was exposed to socialist ideas that changed her worldview. Photography made her realize the power of the camera in revealing transparent places and worlds.
In this video installation, Aseel captures the daily routine of Palestinian construction workers on their way from construction sites in Haifa to the Jalama checkpoint, where they wait for the bus on the side of the road or sit together, tired and silent.
The workers are the stars of this video art, where the banal becomes aesthetic, and the hardship transports into beauty and meaning.
