The Setup
My work deals with the conflict between the need to talk about my difficult experiences and the desire to hide them and protect myself.
I used to hide in different places in the house when I was a child: in the drawer under the bed, in the closet, in the attic, and under the stairs. These places protected me and also intrigued me. I wanted to know what was in them, to understand them. I also used to sit at the window, peek out of the house and close it as soon as someone saw me.
In my art, I deal with the tension between exposure and concealment and the beauty in pain.
