Malak Manzour
My name is Malak Mansour
I am a multidisciplinary artist, my works focus on sculpture, graphite drawing and painting. In my final project I present a body of work that deals with observing inner worlds anxieties and dream images. I try to break down my emotional experiences while documenting the experience and turning dreams into tangible objects.
My work process begins with the dream I dream of. The works are attempts to imitate the beings I see "there."
My works are characterized by layers of material. Whether it is in painting, or in sculpture, I like to use many layers to give the work a sense of duration and spiritual and physical depth.
In my works I often use "cheap materials"; Building materials commonly used for construction work, and I try to build and dismantle the work as it slowly develops into chaotic and grotesque chunks. This approach embodies and represents my attempt to deal with worlds of nightmare and fear that I gather from private dreams.
Every work includes symbolic elements that recur in my nightmare dreams, the layers add layers of concealment and cover to these symbols.
A viewer who dedicates himself to my work and who agrees to see the difficult things hidden in it, and to dive through them, will be able to see the beauty that really lies beneath them.
In the process of creation, I am in a physical-spiritual experience, I feel that I am in my body and not there at the same time. I visit places they are unfamiliar with, and try to explore them intuitively without planning or knowing what the end will be. After the work is finished, I try to analyze it intellectually with emotional distance and detachment from the personal aspect, and understand where the various items in the work came from.
